The "Dreadful" Project

Hey all! Recently, I signed up for the Art House Co-op's The "Dreadful"Project. They asked for participants to "illustrate a monster, create an eerie scene, share your greatest fear, or whatever lurks within us all."

With a just BIC pen in hand, I tried to create something truly dreadful.

Halloween Art Show.

Back in October, the lovely people at Golden Spiral Studios asked me to contribute to their Halloween Art Show.  I created two block prints around a undead theme.  The first is as if you are seeing three zombie characters crawl out of the darkness into the dim light.  The second is a zombie version of Spider-man.  It was so awesome to be a part of such a brilliant and eclectic body of show.  These pieces are still for sale, so if you are interested feel free to contact me.

The Deerly Departed.

Hey there! Thanks to the Golden Spiral in Greensboro, NC I was given the opportunity to have my first solo exhibition.  I was so thrilled to be offered this chance to show my work! So this series of white charcoal drawing I lovingly call 'The Deerly Departed'.  They are a collection of 8 pieces consisting of half man, half deer creatures and their deceased counterparts.  Feel free to go by the shop and check them out or even purchase one!
In other exciting news about these pieces, I just submitted them to the Coraddi (UNC-Greensboro art and lit magazine).  Cross your fingers that they will be in print soon!

A Hootenanny.

Over the holiday season, I decided that I was going to make some handmade postcards for my friends and family.  For the past 30 something years, my father has been known to write and illustrate his own Christmas cards.  I felt like this year I would put my own spin on his tradition.  Being a print maker, I carved a stamp into this Christmas-spirited owl you see below.  The owl is named 'Jo-Jo the Judgement Owl' and is a running joke among my friends and family.  He actually has his own Facebook fan page (http://on.fb.me/SmzKPV).  With different colors of card stock and ink on my side, I was able to make a few different versions of my feathered friend.  Everything ended up very successful and ended up sending out 40 Christmas postcards!

Santa Baby.

Recently, I was given the amazing task of designing a beer label for one NoDa Brewing Company's delicious creations.  The mere fact that I was presented with this opportunity was such a exciting thing.  Like my skate board designs, I was able to combine two interests into one project.  I have been a fan of NoDa brews since my dear college friend, Matt Virgil, presented me with my very first sip of Coco Loco (2012 GABF Silver Medal Winner).  Matt's family started this brewing company a little over a year ago and in that short time it has grown immensely, now being the only craft beer available at the Panther Stadium.  I couldn't be more excited for them!

I got to design the new Christmas brew called Santa Baby.  This delectable beverage is a medley of coriander, orange peel, ginger, and cloves.  It is exclusively available in their tap room, so get over there and grab a cold one!

WHY WE DRAW.

Ever wonder why we draw?  The Gatewood Gallery is taking on this question with a new exhibition.  This open call for work is entitled "Why We Draw: An Exploration of Drawing", and will run from October 29th to November 7th.  Of course, you can be sure to see my submission there!

Why I drew:

My piece is entitled "The State of Tate".  This is a visual representation of the movement and signage on Tate Street in Greensboro, NC.  The darker and thicker lines demonstrate the busier areas whether that be from bicycle, car, or foot traffic.  There are some remnants of signage, but most are nonrepresentational as you would only see them in passing.  These would be fragmented without intentional focus.

A Golden Event.

Greetings! As promised, here are some pictures from the art exhibit opening last Friday.  There was a wonderful turnout and of course some great work to see.  Thanks to all my wonderful friends who showed up for the opening and Golden Spiral, who I will hopefully be working with again very soon!
